I am a thinker, and I think thinks

1. An issue that concerns me today is the growing abuse that we continue to put on our planet. Whether you believe in global warming or not, there is a growing problem that needs to be fixed. Our society today is fixed on getting more and more and making things bigger and bigger. However, we're not thinking about having more for the future. We're not setting up our children to have a fullfilling life. Commercial farms have ruined family farmers and have also created a lesser product while maintaining less quality. Another example is the amount of expanding that we're doing in order to create more space for organizations that really have no purpose. As a result, amazing parts of the world are being destroyed. The biggest problem though, is not the issue itself, but that no one seems to have any urgency to fix it. We, as a whole, have the power to change this, but no one steps up to the plate.

2. Alberto Granado. This guy was, and still is ahead of his time. He didn't care whether or not the people were sick and/or poor. He just wanted to help them and do all that he could. I think today, we're missing people like that---peope who would sacrifice their own well being to help others out. Thats something admirable.

3. Choke by Chuck Palahniuk. This book was pretty amazing. It was a satirical look at society and all the explanations that we need to give to everything because we are never satisfied with the true beauty of the world.

I admire your concern for our planet and agree that a united approach would be most effctive. I also like your second entry. The concept behind your admiration is great, and so is Granado's outlook on life.

I hate to admit that I have never heard of Alberto Granado. He sounds like an amazing guy though. I will definitely have to learn more about him. I agree with you about the issue of global warming. The MOST disgusting and ignorrant comment someone can make regarding the environment is.."who cares..I'll be dead." So sad.

I agree that our world is so focused on making things bigger and better, when the focus should really be making things better for what we already have. It's interesting to see how much our world has changed, and how much we are changing it. It is also interesting knowing that throughout all the change, we ignore some of our biggest problems.

You tried to get me to read that stupid book, but i never had the chance cause you took it from me. However, I do admire your knowledge of Alberto Granado. The Motorcycle Diaries is one of the best stories ever told.

Sometimes I wonder where we are headed. If we went from family farmers to commercial farmers, for example, what's next? I mean, that's the big change--everything is now corporate and huge--but then what's next?

I also get concerned about the environment. When I was a substitute teacher, I'd also sub in sceience classes where we'd watch all these sad movies about how we abuse the planet. I once saw a poster that had earth, with the words "Fragile: Handle with car." The sad thing is, the earth isn't fragile, and look what we've done to it. It takes a lot to destroy an entire planet, but we've done a great job in starting to.

The good news is that with all this media pressure, things will change. We CAN turn things around (like with global warming); it'll just take work.
